These unique figurines were undoubtedly intended to attract the attention of passers-by. Almost the size of an adult of that time. The figurines presented here are part of the work of the late 19th-century Venetian sculptor Francesco Toso and his followers. They certainly contributed to the demand for such realistic and extravagant figurines, which reached a peak in quality from the late 19th century. In addition, these creations demonstrate the extraordinary creativity and craftsmanship of Venice at that time.
Toso's works were presented at numerous fairs, at the national exhibitions in Turin in the late 19th century. As well as the international art exhibition in Rome in 1883, the national exhibition in Venice in 1887 and the Italian pavilion at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. where Toso died suddenly, sincerely striving to make the entire exhibition worthy of the art of Italian crafts
